ŠAMANOVO DOUPĚ: Držme Francii palce

Quetzal 8.11.2005 3:46Janečku, Janečku, jeden z nejoblíbenějších zákřováckejch diskusních triků je vybrat si to nejméně důležité a odvést pozornost od toho zásadního. Vždyť je to úplně jedno, jestli se policajti trefili do mešity nebo ne. Maximálně by byla na místě omluva. ALE K TOMU, ABY NĚKDO SPUSTIL TAKOVOUHLE VLNU DEVASTACE - NA TO MUSÍ BÝT BUĎ DISCIPLÍNA NEBO OBECNÁ VŮLE TAKHLE SE BAVIT. Week 10 in the trial of Dr. Sami Al-Arian and three others featured a number of moves by prosecutors that have now become standard fare--as well as new, more troubling actions that left many courtroom observers incredulous.
Five years of evidence were covered in five hours, and a dream was read to jurors.
On Monday, prosecutors for the second time interrupted the testimony of lead FBI agent Kerry Myers, which had entered its fourth week, in order to bring in additional witnesses from Israel to testify about their experiences. Defense attorneys raised several objections about this testimony, noting that after more than two months of trial, with nearly a month of testimony by the top agent in the case, the government had yet to show any evidence linking the accused men with any events in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Jiri Janecek USA 8.11.2005 3:37McCarthy-like smears - a bubba SP to zere In the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, all four media giants, eagerly tapping into the country's mood of vengeance and fear, latched onto the Al-Arian story, fudging the facts and ignoring the most rudimentary tenets of journalism in their haste to better tell a sinister story about lurking Middle Eastern dangers here at home.
The story went national when Al-Arian was invited on the Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor" show back on Sept. 26. Host Bill O'Reilly revived inflammatory charges against Al-Arian dating back, in some cases, 15 years. Those charges were that a now-defunct Islamic think tank Al-Arian founded and ran in conjunction with USF operated as a sort of home away from home for radical Palestinians and terrorists. The charges had been thoroughly investigated and rejected by USF, and an immigration judge; the FBI has been looking for years and has never filed any charges.
Not even his harshest critics suggest Al-Arian has done anything in the last five years that could be even remotely construed as aiding terrorist organizations. The entire controversy sprang from the fact that viewers became enraged after old allegations were re-aired, albeit often in mangled form, by O'Reilly.

čtenář 8.11.2005 1:31Není tohle vydírání? To je tedy zajímavé, pane Kovanič, to by mně vůbec nenapadlo si myslet o Francii kiš kiš. To asi napadlo jen vás. Takže přeci jen jsou ty nepokoje využitelné jako forma vydírání, aby Francie příště vylepšila svůj postoj vůči dobývání středního Východu. |

Although Sami Al-Arian and three co-defendants are not charged with killing anyone, they conspired to bring about attacks and are just as guilty under the law as the suicide bombers who carried them out, prosecutor Cherie Krigsman said in closing arguments. "The men of the PIJ you got to know in this case, they didn't strap bombs to their body," she said. "They leave that to somebody else." Al-Arian, 47, and his co-defendants are accused of using Palestinian charities and educational entities as fundraising fronts for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad to help bombings that killed hundreds. The men deny they supported violence and say they are being persecuted for views that are unpopular in the United States. Al-Arian, a former University of South Florida computer engineering teacher who was fired after he was indicted, "was a professor by day and a terrorist by night," Krigsman said. Prosecutors built their case around hundreds of pages of transcripts of wiretapped phone calls and faxes intercepted by the FBI from the mid-1990s to about 2003, including discussions about the direction and financing of the PIJ. The participants at times appear to celebrate suicide attacks that killed Israelis and speak glowingly of the Palestinian "martyrs" who carried them out. Prosecutors said Al-Arian and co-defendants Sameeh Hammoudeh, Ghassan Zayed Ballut and Hatem Naji Fariz used a think tank and a Palestinian charity in Tampa as fundraising fronts. The men claim the money they raised went to Palestinian charities. If convicted, they could each face up to life in prison. Ta náboženská hierarchie je u nich tuším velmi nejednoznačná, a navíc v takovém "kypícím" etniku není problém včerejší fatvu popřít zítřejším přitakáním, viz ty desítky imámů nabádajích jak k míru tak vyzývajících k válce. |

Vodník 8.11.2005 0:27No no no no no, pane Kovanič! Ti vrhači kamenů jsou druhá generace přistěhovalců, zatímco Francouzi, které poliši zastupují, tam bydlí pár set generací. V Israeli je ta situace skoro naopak, nemyslíte? Jak to můžete srovnávat??
Jinak oceňuju, že v článku se nemluví o "krvěžíznivých muslimech", ale o kriminálních ganzích, neboť těmi ti zločinci jsou. Viz komentář Emmy Bovary.
