Prestižní ocenění australské fantastiky Aurealis Award byla předána 25. února 2006 v Brisbane na Queensland Conservatorium v South Bank. Ceny jsou udělovány nejvýznačnějším pracem uplynulého roku. Tato cena vznikla v roce 1995 na popud stejnojmenného magazínu.
V Austrálii navíc udělují ještě jednu prestižní cenu nazvanou Ditmar, ta je však proti Aurealis vyhrazená pouze žánru sci-fi a nepatří pod patrónu žádného magazínu. Podtrženo sečteno se cena Aurealis může přirovnávat k našemu Ikaru, či cenám Locus. Za povšimnutí rozhodně stojí rozsah dílům z mládežnické a dětské produkce.
Nezbývá mi než jen dodat, že s objemnější várkou australské fantastiky se setkáme příští rok v druhých Trochu divných kusech Martina Šusta, kdo ví, třeba objevíme některého z letošních finalistů. Za zmínku stojí ocenění a nominace Gartha Nixe, jehož povídku Pod hladinou jezera si můžete přečíst v právě vydaném magazínu Fantasy & Science Fiction.
